CANCER
The La Salida del Sol Lions Club supports the nationwide American Cancer Society dedicated to the elimination of cancer as a major health problem, saving lives from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. This is done by group participation and financial support in the "RELAY FOR LIFE" program.
Liberty Day
Liberty Day started in Colorado by Lions in 1996. In October 2000, the U. S. House and Senate passed a Resolution recognizing an annual Liberty Day on March 16th, the birthday of James Madison, the "Father of the Constitution" and the fourth President of the United States. Now, Liberty Day can be celebrated anytime throughout the year. Our Club has had elected officials, the Mayor or Council Person come and speak to 7th and 8th grade classes about "The Constitution" and meaning of Liberty. We have presented small booklets with "The Declaration of Independence" and "U. S. Constitution" to each student; led them in the" American Creed" and recited the "Bill Of Rights" rap. Our Club has sponsored kids to hand out the Liberty booklets at the Post Office in December and ask patrons questions about the Constitution. The Liberty Day mission is the preservation of our Constitutional form of self-government and the political process that guarantees the liberties of those self-governed citizens. (This program is non-partisan.)

School Nurses
School Nurses are very important to our Club. We honor them in February at a breakfast meeting with gifts, food and entertainment. Without the nurses, the service of Sight to children would be very difficult.
